Andrea Hirschhorn on Facebook

Lifted from a conversation Mom had with Andrea on Facebook.com

Andrea Hirschhorn commented:

Die Gedanken sind frei

Thoughts are free, who can guess them? They flee by like nocturnal shadows. No man can know them, no hunter can shoot them with powder and lead: Thoughts are free!...

Lisa Earle commented:
-----------------------------

Thanks for sending this wonderfu poem - I remember it so well!
love, Lisa.

Lisa Earle commented:
I wish we could meet someday...we have a lot in common...How do you like China?

Andrea Hirschhorn commented:
Way back we watched a disturbing BBC documentary about Hans Litten, that's where I came across the poem. Very powerful!

Andrea Hirschhorn commented:
And on the other note - we love it here. Challenges at every corner but we truly enjoy it! Plus haven't given up on visiting you!
Would love to meet one day...

The 2nd half of that statement needs to be rolled around on the tongue, and allowed to rattle about in the head for a good while to see where eventually it's dust settles on ones opinion about it :).

Simons's father and mother, Ralph and Ida Rudensky , and of course, his sister, Goldie Borah, before she was married.

Oskar Popkin was Simon's uncle, a brother to his mother Ida, a born Popkin. He was Joe Popkin's father. Goldie Warren was Joe's sister ...

Love you, MOM

Ok, let me make sure I've got this now...

Ralph and Ida Rudensky - Simon's parents.
Ida's maiden name was Popkin -Wow! (I can't believe how long it takes me to "get" all of this sometimes)

Ida's brother, Oskar (Simon's uncle) was Joe Popkin's father.
So Joe Popkin was Simon's 1st cousin. That's why the "connection" with us has been so strong over the years - I see now.

And finally, Sharon Anderson is Joe's daughter?
This makes her 2nd cousin to Julie and me.

How come I don't remember her hardly at all except for over the past 5 or 10 years?
(i.e. I don't remember her while we were growing up)

You got it right, David!!!
Sharon was busy teaching Grade school for many years, we did not see much of her, only heard through her Dad, Joe. She retired just a few years ago and married her longtime friend, a wonderful Norwegian Guy, Radar Anderson.

We see much more of them, really love both, warm, wonderful human beings...

Love, MOM

Do you have a picture of Goldie Warren and did she visit while Julie and I were growing up?
